Turn on the Power and Check the Operation
Order of Turning on the Power
When MC9 series is connected to the RC8 series controller, be sure to follow either of the following two procedures for turning on them.
-
Turn on MC9 series and the RC8 series controller simultaneously.
-
Turn on the RC8 controller before turning on MC9 series.
An error may occur if you turn on MC9 series before turning on the RC8 series controller.
If an error occurs, restart MC9 series and the RC8 series controller by turning on their power in the right order.
Operation Check
When MC9 series is connected to the RC8 series controller, the RC8 series controller is operated through MC9 series.
Before starting full-scale operation of the robot system, be sure to conduct the operation checks including the following steps.
What Needs to Be Ensured
Ensure that the RC8 series controller operates according to changes in each of the signals that are input into MC9 series, namely the emergency stop signal, the enable auto signal, and the protective stop signal, which are collectively called the stop/enable auto signals.
The stop/enable auto signals are input into MC9 series through each device. Which signal among the stop/enable auto signals will be input differs depending on the device.
The table below shows the correspondences between the devices connected to MC9 series and the stop/enable auto signals.
| Signal input device | Input signal | Example of how to input the signal |
|---|---|---|
| Smart TP | Emergency stop signal | Press or release the emergency stop button on the smart TP. |
| Enable auto signal | Switch operation modes using the smart TP. | |
| Mini-pendant | Emergency stop signal | Press or release the emergency stop button on the mini-pendant. |
| Enable auto signal | Switch operation modes using the mini-pendant. | |
| Other external devices | Emergency stop signal | The value of the Safety I/O external emergency stop input pin is changed by the emergency stop signal input from another external device. |
| Enable auto signal | The value of the Safety I/O enable auto input pin is changed by the emergency stop signal input from another external device. | |
| Protective stop signal | The value of the Safety I/O protective stop input pin is changed by the emergency stop signal input from another external device. |
Examples of how to check the operation
-
Emergency stop signal
Ensure that the robot connected to the RC8 series controller stops operating when you press the emergency stop button on the smart TP connected to MC9 series.
-
Enable auto signal
Ensure that the robot connected to the RC8 series controller cannot be operated manually when you switch the operation mode to Auto mode using the mini-pendant connected to MC9 series.
-
Protective stop signal
Ensure that the robot connected to the RC8 series controller stops operating when you open the circuit for the protective stop signal in another external device connected to MC9 series.
