Controller

RC8A robot controller

Remark

  • Only selective joints can be used as extended-joints.
  • Up to four extended-joints per robot are available. (Up to eight extended-joints in total).
  • Note that the RC8A robot controller UL-listed model is not available.
HSA1 robot × 2
HSR robot
+ HSA1 robot
RC8 series-supported robot

Controller

Must be one of the followings.

  • RC8A robot controller
  • RC8 robot controller

About RC8 Series-Supported Robot

  • Either the internal joint or the selective joint can be used as the extended joint.
  • The number of available extended joints differs depending on the robot used: Up to four extended joints for a 4-axis robot. Up to two extended joints for a 6-axis robot.

About MC8 Series-Controlled Robot

  • Only the selective joint can be controlled.
  • Up to 8 joints are available.

Controller

Must be one of the followings.

  • MC8A Motion Controller
  • MC8 Motion Controller

Remark

  • Either the internal joint or the selective joint can be controlled.
  • Up to 8 joints can be controlled per robot. (16 joints in total)
  • Up to 8 internal joints are available.
  • Up to 16 selective joints are available.

Terms and Definitions

RC8 series-supported robot
All robots that can be controlled by the RC8 series robot controller.
MC8 series-controlled robot
Robots that are controlled by the MC8 series motion controller.
Here, any machine that presents a simple operation is also called a robot. (For example, a machine that comprises of only one joint is called a robot.)
Internal joint
A motor that is controlled through an amplifier (a driver board) that has been installed in the RC8 series robot controller or the MC8 series motion controller beforehand.
Selective joint
A motor that is controlled through an EtherCAT Slave-supported amplifier. To use this motor, an EtherCAT master board must be installed in the RC8 series robot controller or the MC8 series motion controller.

License

You do not need to purchase a license for the number of robots.

By purchasing one license per robot controller, the license function can be used for two robots that are controlled by the dual arm control function.

License for Dual Arm Control

Part name / Part No. Description

Dual arm control (Built-in with License)

Part No. : 410002-870*

A license to activate the dual arm control function.

Dual arm control (License)

Part No. : 410002-871*

Dual arm control (Cooperative License Pack) (Built-in with License)

Part No. : 410002-873*

A license to activate the dual arm control function and the following option functions.

  • Cooperative Control Function
  • Exclusive Control Function
  • Virtual Fence

This license is suitable for the application that two robots are used as a dual arm robot system.

If you want to use only a part of the above option, the individual license is available.

Dual arm control (Cooperative License Pack) (License)

Part No. : 410002-874*

Individual License (Cooperative Control Function, Exclusive Control Function, Virtual Fence Function)

Part name / Part No. Description

Cooperative Control Master (Built-in with License)

Part No. : 410002-774*

A license to activate the cooperative control function.

(If both the dual arm control function and cooperative function are used together, a license for the slave controller is not required).

Cooperative Control Master (License)

Part No. : 410002-775*

Virtual Fence (Built-in with License)

Part No. : 410002-771*

A license to activate the virtual fence.

Virtual Fence (License)

Part No. : 410002-772*

Exclusive Control (Built-in with License)

Part No. : 410002-785*

A license to activate the exclusive control.

Exclusive Control (License)

Part No. : 410002-786*

Conditions for Use

Description

Note that the dual arm control function is not available for the RC8A robot controller safety motion specification and MC8A motion controller safety motion specification.

The following functions are not available with the dual arm control function.

  • Force Sensor Compliance Control
  • Force Sensor Robust Compliance Control
  • Circular tracking

Conveyor tracking is available from Ver.2.8.* or higher.

Dual arm control function-related configurations are not available from the Mini pendant.

Basically, the following functions are carried out by communicating with several RC8 series robot controllers or MC8 series motion controllers.

  • Cooperative Control Function
  • Exclusive Control Function
  • Virtual Fence

However, if the dual arm control function is used, the above-mentioned functions can work in one RC8 series robot controller or one MC8 series motion controller.

The following figure shows the application example of the exclusive control function.

Robot Allocation

Robot allocation (which robot is allocated to Robot0 or Robot1) is written in the caution label of the package box and the controller setting list on the top surface of the robot controller.

Caution label of package box

The caution labelis attached on the top surface or the side of the package box. Serial number of Robot0 is written in the upper row of the caution label, serial number of Robot1 is written in the lower row.

(This is a sample written in Japanese.)

Controller setting list

Controller setting list is attached on the top surface of the robot controller. Serial numbers of Robot0 and Robot1 are written in the part enclosed by the red rectangle in the following figure.
