Classification of Users

When using a robot, classify the users as indicated below and make them take training necessary in their own classifications.

  • Install robots and related devices in compliance with laws and regulations of each country and region.
  • When transporting, installing, teaching, adjusting and maintaining, you need to wear protective gears (working clothes, safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat and gloves) applicable to work, with keeping safety in mind.

User Types

Users are classified into the following three types. Below is the scope of operations available to each user type.

Operator

  • An operator turns a robot on/off.
  • An operator starts a robot program from the control panel.

Programmer

  • A programmer can perform what the operator can perform.
  • A programmer can move a robot manually and put the positions into the memory.
  • A programmer can create and edit the robot program.
  • A programmer can check the connection with the peripheral devices of the robot and correct the connection setting.
  • A programmer can work inside the safety fences, only when the following conditions are met.

    • A programmer has taken the robot operation training.
    • Safety measures when the worker operates inside the safety fences have been taken by risk assessment.

Maintainer

  • A maintainer can perform what the programmer can perform.
  • A maintainer can transport, install, and remove the robot.
  • A maintainer can move a robot manually.
  • When an error occurs with a robot, the maintainer can eliminate the cause and bring it back to the operating status.
  • A maintainer can work inside the safety fences, only when the following conditions are met.

    • A maintainer has taken the robot operation training.
    • Safety measures when the worker operates inside the safety fences have been taken by risk assessment.

Training Required for Users in Each User Type

Following table indicates the training required for the operators, programmers, and maintainers.

Operator Programmer Maintainer
Safety training of machinery including robots
- Training to make the work of programmers to be performed safely Training to make the work of maintainers to be performed safely
- Maintenance training of robots

Points to Consider

In handling the robot, take training necessary for your intended user type based on the comparison between the intended work and the scope of operations available to each user type that is shown above.
