Backlash Adjustment

The backlash must be properly adjusted to prevent vibration and noise and improve the accuracy of stop positions. The below explains the way of backlash adjustment.

1

Place the robot unit between supports.
Loosen the four bolts which hold the pinion cover and then remove the pinion cover.

2

Install the mechanical stopper to the position illustrated below, and then apply the robot unit to the mechanical unit.

3

Loosen the motor plate mounting bolts slightly to the extent that the motor plate does not wobble.

4

This picture is taken from the opposite side of the motor.
Turn the pinion clockwise with hand until the teeth of pinion apply to the left side of the teeth of the rack.

5

Set the dial gauge on the tooth of the pinion, and then turn the pinion clockwise to check the amount of backlash.

6

Using a 7 mm wrench on the adjustment screw, raise or lower the position of the pinion to adjust the backlash.
Adjust the pinion so that the back lash is set within 0.04 - 0.06 mm.
One complete turn of the screw (360°) raises or lowers the lead by 0.8 mm.

7

When adjustment is finished, tighten the two motor plate mounting bolts.

Tightening torque 9.8N・m ± 10%
8

Put the mechanical stopper back where it has been set.

9

Put the pinion cover back.

Tightening torque 2.9N・m ± 20%

This is the end of backlash adjustment.
